The Ultimate Minnesota Waterfalls Road Trip Is Right Here – And You’ll Want To Do It

If you’re up for an epic Minnesota adventure, you have to try this road trip! You get to see countless stunning Minnesota waterfalls in 7 northern locations, on top of experiencing one of the most famously beautiful drives along the North Shore! Starting from Duluth or Grand Portage, it only takes a little over 3 hours of driving to get to the other end – which leaves plenty of time for exploring the falls! You can spend the night at one end, or even camp halfway through to make it last. But, if you’re feeling up to it, it is possible to make it a round trip in one long day (but don’t try to one-day round trip it in the winter). Get the Google map here and don’t forget the camera!

  1. Gooseberry Falls (State Park)
The legendary Gooseberry Falls mark the first stop on the trip. The three levels of falls are all amazing in any weather – and they’re right down the path from the parking lot, making this stop one of the easiest for viewing!
  1. High Falls & Illgen Falls (Tettegouche State Park)
Both of these waterfalls at Tettegouche are beautiful! The High Falls are definitely the fan-favorite, but both are within a short hiking distance.
  1. Falls at George H. Crosby Manitou State Park
Next, we head a little bit inland to George H. Crosby Manitou State Park, a beautiful back-country park where you can find epic falls with just about a mile of hiking.
  1. Temperance River Falls
The falls at Temperance River State Park head right under the highway and make a quick, stunning stop along the way to the next destination.
  1. Cascades (Cascade River State Park)
Continuing North, the Cascades are one of the most amazing stops on the trip. This park alone has enough waterfalls for an entire day of marveling.
  1. The Devil’s Kettle & Upper Falls (Judge C.R. Magney State Park)
The famed Devil’s Kettle and the gorgeous Upper Falls make Judge C.R. Magney one of the best stops on this trip. Enjoy the mystery of Devil’s Kettle, or better yet, try and solve it! Where does the water go?
  1. The High Falls (Pigeon River – Grand Portage State Park)
The other end of the trip is at Grand Portage State Park. Seeing the High Falls on the US-Canada border is an unforgettable experience. They’re the highest falls in MN!

Minnesota’s North Shore has some of the most amazing waterfalls around – and this road trip is one of the most worthwhile you’ll ever spend seeing the MN sights.
