Bike Trails in Minnesota
Home > Find an Inn > Bike Trails in Minnesota

From the north shore and the iron range, the Minnesota River valley, the glacial lakes region to bluff country, Minnesota’s bike trails await your discovery.  Minnesota is blessed with a network of paved bike trails including 56 wonderful rail trails totaling 1,288 miles; some offering incredible views from old railroad trestle bridges. The trails meander through picturesque countryside passing through small towns with quaint shops, interesting dining, local culture and history to discover.

The state trail system is maintained by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.  The trails can be enjoyed by young and old, and even by the handicapped. Most are level enough and the surface smooth enough for wheelchairs and in line skating. Many counties have their own trail system; some of which connect to the state trail system.

MBBA innkeepers await your arrival with comfortable beds in country inns, restored Victorian homes, or historic local buildings.  Great breakfasts are served to start your day with friendly conversation around the dining room table.  Your innkeeper offers an abundance of local expertise to help you get the most out of your bike trail experience.  Some inns offer bike rental or can direct you to local outfitters who can help you.

Minnesota also has a network of mountain biking trails.  The inns listed below will help you find the trail experience that suits your needs.

The premier bike trail on the North Shore (possibly the state) is being expanded as you read this. When completed, the Gitchi-Gami State Trail will be an 86 mile non-motorized, paved trail between Two Harbors and Grand Marais. Right now you can start in Beaver Bay (10 minutes from us) and travel the longest contiguous section of the trail (13.1 mi.) thru Split Rock Lighthouse SP to Gooseberry SP. By late in 2011 the plan is for 26.6 miles of uninterrupted trail between Tettegouche and Gooseberry Falls State Parks. Since our B&B is only 3 miles from Tettegouche, guests will have exceptional access, to say the least. You can learn more about the trail's progress at: http://www.ggta.org
